Every night we anchor the tents to the ice using ice screws. It's a fine art selecting a suitable campsite; flat, big enough for two tents, wind-protected, nearby compacted snow supply, little chance of ice fracturing overnight. The photo is of Seamus (standing) and Heath removing the ice cores from the screws after dismantling the tent. If it's not done the next camp will have a dismal start.
With a fresh wind from the SE and a generally smooth surface with little pressure or leads we skied 22km today and camp just shy of the 89th parallel. At this rate we could be at the pole in 6 days but this place can, and will, change in an instant. We are on a lucky streak but luck plays but a small role out here. Eric
